I was honored and humbled to work on this project about the life of Walter P. Reuther. Walter is best known as an early leader and president of the United Automobile Workers union, but he also spoke at the March on Washington, protested with Caesar Chavez and Coretta Scott King, worked with several U.S. Presidents, funded the first Earth Day, and was beat up and shot, among many other events and accomplishments during a lifetime spent advocating for human rights and social justice.
This book was presented to UAW members at their 38th Constitutional Convention. It will also be sent to President Biden, Vice President Harris, the Governor of Michigan, and other politicians, with the intent of generating interest in placing a statue of Walter in the U.S. Capitol.
Thanks to Ruthann Hande, Bruce Dickmeyer, Sandra Engle, Victor S. Reuther, Gavin Strassel and the Walter P. Reuther Library for their huge contributions to this project.

I worked with the multi-talented creatives at FIX Agency, Joe Horton and Carissa Merrill, to update the logo and invigorate the toolkit. We integrated impromptu, irreverent staff photos with bright colors and geometric patterns to bring the tagline “Changing the Culture of Mental Health” to life.

A personal project: I decided to choose and represent, in a graphic style, artists of the 60s, 70s, and early 80s who were iconic in their impact on rock music, as well as iconic in appearance (the hair helps). As the project evolved, it became apparent that it had to be 100 icons, which is a nice round geometric number, and somewhat begins to cover the number of legends that I felt had to be in there. Sadly, we’ve lost many of these icons, and as time marches on, we’ll lose more. COVID-19 quarantine seemed a good time to finish up the project, as we take stock of those we love and value, and look for shared histories that may bring us a little closer together.

A true icon, Pearson’s Salted Nut Roll is a salty, nutty, roll-y treat that debuted during the Great Depression. I worked with the amazing Adam King to update this classic package, retaining elements that SNR devotees expect (Cooper Black) while creating a lighter, fresher statement. We ditched the drop shadows and extrusions, selected a more elegant, richer red and warmer gold, and reshot the bar itself to be more appetizing. We also added some peanut flavor cues that cavort around the package.
Also shown are a couple of alternative concepts that explored a more radical departure from the established brand toolkit.

Every year, Target partners with the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum in New York to sponsor a national design challenge for high school students. The BUN Bar is a nearly-identical sibling to the more famous Nut Goodie.
